FOOD PARCELS DELIVERED TO ELDERLY RESIDENTS |
August 2023.
In response to the needs of the elderly residents in Loeriesfontein, 500 food parcels have been delivered, with a further 1000 parcels being donated over the next four months, as part of a project aimed at providing essential assistance.
Initiated by community leaders, Kevin Theys and Johanna Koose, with support from Loeriesfontein and Khobab Wind Farms, this initiative is designed to improve the health and well-being of the elderly residents, address poverty, and provide moral support to community members in need.
“We are delighted that the wind farms worked alongside Johanna and myself to find a short-term fix. These food parcels aren’t meant to be permanent, just a temporary measure. We’re partnering with the wind farms to provide these food parcels to seniors aged 65 and above, for six months. Given the high unemployment rate in Loeriesfontein, it’s clear there’s a real need for these food parcels,” said Kevin.
By applying for the ABCD (Asset-Based Community Development) funding, Kevin and Johanna were able to gather the necessary resources for their cause. The first phase of this initiative has already been successfully completed, with a distribution event held at the Loeriesfontein Business Hub in June 2023. During this phase, 250 food parcels were distributed, tailored to cater to the specific needs of the elderly community members.
Following the success of the first phase, the second phase took place last month (July 2023), at the Loeriesfontein Sports Hall, where an additional 250 food parcels were handed over to the elderly recipients. The event witnessed the presence of various stakeholders who were invited to witness the impact of their generosity first-hand.
