EMPOWERING WOMEN THROUGH COMPUTER LITERACY TRAINING |
July 2023.
A training course has brought together 25 women from Loeriesfontein between the ages of 20 and 69, to develop their computer literacy skills. Funded by Loeriesfontein and Khobab Wind Farms in collaboration with JLK Business Consulting, this course is designed to empower women and instil a sense of confidence in computer literacy, with a view to opening doors to new opportunities.
“As a 69-year-old, I was faced with an enormous challenge that seemed overwhelming at first. However, my attitude shifted after just one day, and I no longer felt scared. Throughout the experience, I gained a wealth of knowledge that was both fascinating and enlightening. The facilitators involved were exceptionally supportive and patient, making the journey so much smoother,” said Maria Okhuis, one of the programme participants.
Under the guidance of experienced instructors, the participants delved into the foundations of computer literacy, gaining proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. From creating their first Word document to managing data in Excel and crafting compelling presentations in PowerPoint, the women of Loeriesfontein not only acquired technical skills but also developed the tools and knowledge needed to succeed in the digital world.
Upon completing the programme, participants will receive certificates, recognising their successful completion of the training, as a testament to their newfound computer literacy skills and their commitment to personal and professional growth.
“This programme’s exclusive focus on women holds significant importance in fostering inclusivity and addressing gender disparities. By empowering women in Loeriesfontein, we aim to promote equality and equity,” said Vanessa Fredericks, Economic Development Manager for Loeriesfontein and Khobab Wind Farms.
In support of their continued development, Loeriesfontein and Khobab Wind Farms aim to provide further assistance to these women through digital management and marketing training, building upon the foundation established during the computer skills development programme.
