ANOTHER THREE LOERIESFONTEIN STUDENTS AWARDED BURSARIES |
April 2022.
Three students from Loeriesfontein have been awarded scholarships that will help them in furthering their studies. They form part of a group of 12 students in Loeriesfontein already receiving funding as part of the Khobab Wind Farm Bursary Programme, which allows Loeriesfontein community members, but particularly youth to pursue higher education and follow their dreams.
“Given the exorbitant costs associated with tertiary studies, many students may not afford to attend a higher education institution. Our bursary programme provides an opportunity for community members, especially the youth, to access and achieve a tertiary education, at any accredited higher institution in South Africa,” explained Vanessa Fredericks, Economic Development Manager for Khobab Wind Farm, which funds this as part of its broader Socio-Economic Development programme.
One student, Marileze Syster, is currently pursuing a Diploma in Management Assistance, at Boland College, in Paarl. Other bursary beneficiaries include Maleting Hugo, who is studying towards a Certificate in Social Work, at Hugenote College, based in Wellington; and Jade Nel who is studying towards a Diploma in Animal Production, at the International Agricultural Academy for Africa, in Bloemfontein.
This year, six of the 12 students funded by this programme will be graduating. One of these students, Grantham Nel, is a final year B.Ed Student at the University of Stellenbosch, and he had this to say: “Although studies have been hard, I have been able to keep up with them. The bursary gave me the chance to pursue my dreams, allowing me to do so without putting a financial burden on my family. Upon completing my studies, I would like to start teaching at a school. I would like to make a significant difference in the lives of children and be the best version of myself.”
