ENHANCING EARLY CHILDHOOD EDUCATION IN LOERIESFONTEIN |
July 2024.
The children, families, and staff of Loerie Vinkie Crèche in Loeriesfontein are celebrating the much-needed infrastructure upgrades, made possible through a local community development programme. These essential renovations, designed to enhance the learning environment for children aged 3-5, underscore a profound commitment to community growth and early education.
“The recent upgrades at the crèche have greatly benefited us and the community by helping to foster a safe and healthy environment for our learners. We are deeply grateful for the financial contributions, which have had a significant positive impact on our school. This support has also encouraged our practitioners to engage in their teaching with greater confidence and enthusiasm,” said Loerie Vinkie Principal, Brumilde Hugo.
Managed by a dedicated governing body of seven community members, the crèche, which accommodates up to 40 children, now features improved facilities including classrooms, play areas, and outdoor spaces. The renovations, completed earlier this year, following the grant received in December 2023, address longstanding challenges such as funding constraints, infrastructure needs, and community engagement.
The renovations, funded by Loeriesfontein and Khobab Wind Farms, include the restoration of basins and toilet repairs, painting of the building, installation of a cement slab in front of the classroom, as well as the construction of a canopy in front of the classroom.
“Our collaboration with the Centre for Early Childhood Developmentto provide this support is a testament to our commitment to fostering early childhood education. The improvements we have made are designed to create a safer, healthier, and more engaging environment for the children, which we believe is crucial for their development,” stated Vanessa Fredericks, Economic Development Manager for Loeriesfontein and Khobab Wind Farms.
Beyond these renovations, the wind farms are also actively involved in expanding the quality and quantity of services offered at the crèche. Additionally, Family Outreach and Play-group activities have been implemented to support vulnerable families and children not attending early childhood development facilities.
Moreover, the Department of Education supports the crèche through quarterly subsidies for food, salaries, and overheads. They also provide training and conduct regular curriculum reviews to ensure high standards of early education.
